XBL Account Hacked

Well (those that don't know) i've had my account hacked, had about 2000 M$ stolen (to purchase a Gold Players Premium) oh and i've played
FIFA 12 (getting 2 achievements in the process) all this while I was at work

It was too late to report as XBox Support as only open until 2100 will will call them after 0800 in the morning.

Be careful people - fingers crossed this gets sorted out asap.

Some people are idiots, they are lowlife that has nothing to do but ruin people enjoyment of playing the xbox, hopefully microsoft will get this sorted

I doubt the did it to ruin Ginge's enjoyment, more benefit theirs! People like that wont even spare a thought for the person on the other end of the crime :(

At least MS are generally on the ball on closing the account & quick to return it - though they dont remove the achievements. (If not make a blog & theyre soon to make efforts to apologise directly & restore it quickly)

Theres a spate of it going around (as Im sure youve noticed) - EA seem to be getting the brunt of it as it involves Fifa, but Fifa is just the money transfer point, not the cause (or at least pointed to that) - Any idea how your account was compromised?
Shared username/password? (particularly ones with shit security, EG Sony/Gawker); hooky websites?;

Its a bit late now, but it might be worth looking into associating your gamertag with a liveID that isn't used by anything else and has its own phrase-length password. (eg, setup a completely separate Live.com address that is never used elsewhere & throw on as much privacy and security on it)


Im not sure the details how how this is all happening will completely be released by MS, I dont think Live.com is hacked directly, but its coming from some vector.

I've never shared any of my details with anyone - I've got no idea how the Bastards hacked my account (I have my passwords set up just like you suggested Mark)

BUT I did have a new friend on my friends list - OG Viper or Vipers - they were on there only for a few minutes but I wrote their gamertag down & has also been passed onto XBL/MS

Having now spoken with a XBL/MS, they have completed/obtained the necessary info and it will now be forward to their fraud investigation dept. (So far, so good)

It will take at least 30 days for their investigation to be completed and in this time I have no access to XBL!

So i'm not going to be online playing games for a while....but I will still be here.

According to the call centre there is a possibility of getting the game & cheevos removed from my history but I have to wait for the investigation to be completed - fingers crossed.

I'll post updates as and when I get them.
