Well i thought i would write a review for one of my fav games of 2009 and it was mega man 9. I will be doing a mega man 10 review once i have finished it i am doing this for any old school retro gamers like myself so i hope you enjoy.

Story

Mega Man's designer Dr. Light is blamed for a robotic rampage and Dr. Wily himself has no apparent connection to it (even showing a video of Dr. Light declaring planetary domination and Wily refusing to follow him), announcing that he needs monetary donations to complete the robots he built to combat those of Dr. Light. Mega Man vows to fight to prove his creator's innocence and expose Wily's true intentions.

Presentation

Well the game is classic mega man through and through the look and presentation will make you feel as though you have been transported back to your childhood. All the sprites have been built from the ground up to emulate the look of the classic mega man. You can even add sprite flicker for that true 8 bit feeling which i think is an awesome touch. All in all if you liked they way mega man looked back in the day then i promise you will like this.

Sound

Ah the sound which makes so many games of that era hold a special place in my retro gaming heart. Now let me say this first of i love the sound track to this game. I think its up there with mega man 2 and certainly when playing i never got bored of the music in any stage. All the sounds from the blaster to the collecting of energy balls/tablets sound exactly as they should do which is to say they sound awesome.

Controls

The controls are as simple as you can imagine with using A to jump and B to fire your blaster. Beyond that the only other control to use is the select button to change your weapon load out for your blaster. Thats it for controls they are simple, tight and responsive.

Gameplay

The gameplay follows the same formula that the classic mega man games follow. There are 9 stages each with their own robot master that you must defeat in order to gain their weapon upgrade. Once all 9 stages are complete you will go to willys castle to take him down. Mega man does not have the slide dash move from mega man 2 so if you liked using that then you may not be happy. There is a shop where you can buy items inbetween stages which should help people out as well. Bottom line the gameplay is classic mega man and for me that can only be a good thing it was not broken so no need to change it. Let me also inform you that this game is hard......very hard at points so get ready for a challange.

Replayability

Well there are 12 achievments ranging from defeat a 1000 enemies to getting through the game without using any continues. There are also a set of challanges that you can opt to go for as well. There are also leaderboards as well which is a nice addition for those speed run types.

Final Thoughts

Well what can i say i love this game and my recomendation to my fellow retro gamers is this, if you love mega man you will love this. It has everything the sound, the looks, the feel and the heart and soul of the original 8 bit awesomeness. For only 800 MSP its a steal for anybody with a retro heart. Hope you all enjoyed my review and a review of mega man 10 will follow soon.
