Well what a shitter.... I was so excited about this title with John Milius writer of Apocolypse now onboard and an interesting twist on the current US led shooters how could it fail.. By being a giant cack handed, poorly written, Acted and laggy mess. On top of having a single player campaign that rarely exceeds mundane throughout it's 5 hr length.
The only highlight was was watching the Phosphorous mortar rounds hit the wrong targets, followed by seeing the credits. Which i never managed. I assume they were just as shite.
The multiplayer promised more. It doesn't deliver for me i found the dozen or so games i played to be lagtastic to the extreme. Dedicated servers my arse this was bad, real bad. The matches often descended into farce with players quiting or being disconnected constantly which paused the matches and ruined any flow that had built up.
The maps are not bad the ones i played on were varied and interesting very much like the BF BC2 maps but unlike Dice's yard stick the lack of environmental damage turned the more built up areas into camp fests. Snipers killed with impunity from every window or doorway and in many cases simply fired into the spawn points for cheap kills.
Dont get me started on the vehicles, Dice's shooter balances the pro's of a vehicle with the knowledge that you will get fucked over if your not careful. Homefront takes a different approach. If your in a vehicle your immune, from everything in fact you are so overly powerful the rest of the team become redundant.
Kills rack up so fast the more powerful perks just bury the opposing team, its shit.
A complete unbalanced mess of a game. The fact that its the balance that kills it gives hope for the future. With a few tweaks Homefront has the raw ingrediants to match the best shooters on the market but crazy design decisions like no environmental damage relegate it to a 2nd tier game.
The campaign is too short, to dull and a complete waste of a wonderfully gifted writer main idea. 4/10
The multiplayer fares little better 6/10
Give it 6 months and maybe a few patches that score may go up 2 or 3 points
