    Chime & AVP demo ??

    ::::::::::::::::UPDATE:::::::::::::::::
    DEMO NOW AVAILABLE ON XBOX LIVE
    ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

    While there's been little before now hinting at a demo, Rumours across the interweb are, That a (now removed) Advertisement for a Aliens vs Predator demo, stated The 4th of February. (This Thursday).
    Numerous sources have reported seeing the advert and it is expected. That the ad was only removed by sega's request because they havnt officially announced it yet.
    Little else is known, But with only 2 weeks till release the chance of a demo hitting this week is highly likely.

    Hopefully it will be/include multiplayer because the build I Played last year was a fully functional "single level" multiplayer demo, so it could have been ready fir months.

    Also. For you XBLA fans. Today (Wednesday) Will see "Chime" hit the Arcade.
    Chime is a relaxing puzzle/rythym game.
    This 'non-profit' title will only cost 400 and half of that go's to some charity or another.

    Finally here's a video for Chime

    Sorry for the initial small pic, wasnt a bad post, considering it was done on my iPhone at 1:30am

    :::::::UPDATE:::::::

    Just had confirmation that the AVP Demo will hit Xbox Live, PSN & Steam tomorrow (Thursday) 4th February.

    The Demo will include a small Single player section as well as Multiplayer.
    So anyone "not Sure" Can have a play and re-arrange there finances, because this is a game not to miss.

    :::::::UPDATE:::::::

    Finally we've got as close to an official announcement as we can expect off Sega

    GET THE DEMO:

    Available soon on Playstation®3 via Playstation® Network, Xbox®360 via Xbox Live and Games for Windows™ via STEAM.

    OMG AVP! *bounces like a child after too many full-fat Cokes* Wait... February 4th is today! I will be going for that demo the minute I get through the front door tonight.

    Does anyone know if the Hunter Edition (the one with the facehugger) is available in the UK? I've been looking for it, but can't find it.

    I’m assuming Joes position on Modern Warfare, resisting the tide of opinion and stubbornly refusing to bow to peer pressure. And then I will probably break in a couple of weeks.

    I’ll await everybody’s opinions on the game before deciding.

    I had a look round the places I usually buy from, but all they had was the Survivor Edition (you get the MP maps, but none of the cool stuff). Think I'll preorder it, just to be on the safe side. I'll be a sad Vincent if I don't manage to get one, hehe.

    The AVP Multiplayer Demo is out now..

    A of 11:30 it was only available by selecting game marketplace, Aliens vs predator, all downloads.
    but no doubt they'll have a box up for it soon under spotlight etc..

    1st impressions of AVP -

    Available mode is only deathmatch. - the few games I tried seemed to be mainly aliens v predators.

    oooh, its dark, theres 1 level & seems to be a weird meshing of marine ship/base with alien ground merging into it.

    Overall, the netcode seems fairly well, couldnt see any discernable lag. Theres currently plenty of people playing it, but as its just gone up, its hardly surprising.
    However, saying that, the time taken to search for games seems to take some time?

    Also, the menu is a bit cack.. it starts off to choose 'Player Match' or 'Invite Friends'
    selecting player match, its then an option to invite friends or quick match... so its a pointless screen for this..

    Different controls for each species, make note of that & learn the three or you'll end up like a dead squirrel.

    On the menu screen, theres odd noises coming from the sound like its bad feedback or something - anyone else get them?

    players can run through each other - eg, a predator & alien are coming to each other.. they will actually walk through each other missing each others attacks. The Melee fighting (as with most 3D FPS tbh) seems to be wonky (for not wanting to say broken)

    playing as marine

    • The flashlight is on by default.. meaning that other people can easily see you.. Surely it should remember the last used position?
    • The ping from the detector seems to ping oddly when theres multiple people about.
    • getting killed is far too easy.. seems a couple of bullet shots is enough to kill you.. (edit - actually this is true of all characters)
    • could be a bug? - when you kill someone else (marine), they start shooting constantly and then seem to drop through the floor.

    Playing as an alien :

    • Your view is really close to the ground, but marine bullets seem to go way overhead but still shoot you as if you're a regular-height sized model.
    • Different controls to attack from the marine, - until you realise, its a serious wtf thing going on..
    • Some of the grab kills look great.. but when they're performed on you, they happen so quick you don't see what's being done as the respawn cam takes over - should have been longer!
    • the transition from floor to wall or ceiling sometimes just doesn't work. as well as it being confusing (which perhaps is the intention!)
    • Seems the sensible defence against aliens is to stand ontop of crates/boxes, the aliens dont seem to be able to attack people up on them!

    Playing as Predator

    • The Focus Jump attacks are great
    • As are the grab attacks - but they only work on sneaking on people.. & the close combat melee system is a bit meh (tbh, it is with the aliens too)
    • The 3 different colour view things make little difference as you can see everyone in the normal light.
    • The cloak, great except that you can be seen easily too - they should have altered it so if you dont move then you are fully invisible (but equally, couldn't attack)

    Overall, its not the 'Rock paper scissor' system I was half thinking they where planning to use, its just everyone has ways to kill & that's that.. guns for the marines & melee for everyone else..

    I hope the other MP options are much better than this, & the single player has to be able to hold up its own.. as I just get the feeling that the demo here is going to put a number of people off the game - certainly has with me
