    Dantes Inferno - Mini Review

Well i have not blogged for a while as i have been very busy with work and everything else in my crazy old life i really do need to invest in a device to stop time so i dont lose so much of it doing work related things. Anyway onto the topic that is the heading of my blog post i will attempt to convey my feelings on the game mentioned hope this helps anyone that may be thinking of making a purchase:-

    Graphics

Well as far as graphics go i would say it is a very solid game some of the imagery is infact quite disturbing but it is all relavent to the setting i mean it is hell after all and you certainly get the idea. The initial circles certainly have that kind of wow factor but i have to admit the second half of the game loses the scale that you get a glimpse of early in the game. All the art direction through out the game though is first class and credit really has to go to the art team and they have thought up some truly twisted and memorable monsters to fight against. Dante moves quite well and his animations are fine especially some of the kill animations that he has can be quite satisfying all be it a bit repetative towards the end. Each one of the monsters that you fight all look very good and the animation on them is solid most of the time all though a bit more variety in the different types of monsters might have been nice. Over all it is a very good looking game with a solid art design and represents the circles of hell and its source material very well.

    Sound

Sound wise again nothing amazing but still solid none the less, the voice acting across the board is also quite good with no one character being a stand out but all of them putting in solid performances. The sound effects are the usual mix of hack and slash type of effects present in most games of this genre and the muscial score is what you would expect given the source material. I dont have a huge amount to say about the sound mainly because it is nothing special it does what it needs to do for the title thats for sure.

    Controls

I did not want to make the comparison too often between this and GOW but at this point i find that i really have no choice because if you have played GOW especially then you will be right at home with the controls. They are smooth and responsive and do the job that they need to do to help you slice up more and more enimies, there is nothing unique or inoventive with them but they are like the rest of the game in the sense they are solid and do what they need to do.

    Gameplay

Well here is where the big comparisons are going to take place in this review of dantes inferno so i will try not to mention GOW too many times as i am well aware that a game should be reviews on its own merit. The game has you going from one area to the next slicing an ever increasing amount of enemies as you journey through the 9 circles of hell. Progression is often stopped by gates/flame walls that you must defeat a certain number of enemies in order to progress which is standard for this genre recent games like bayonetta have also done this. There is an occasional lever/block puzzle but these are few and far between and do not provide any realy challange in the grand scheme of things. One element of the game that is kind of unique is ability to punish or absolve enemies once you have worn them down which ever you decide to do will add experience to either your holy or unholy skill trees. Its a nice addition that adds a bit of extra depth to the combat in the game, relics that you get can also be equiped to dante in order to give him perks so to speak.

    Lastability

Well for my first playthrough it took me about 10 hours on normal difficulty setting there are no points for finishing the harder difficulty settings in the game however you can carry over your abilitys for a second playthrough if you want. When i played it on easy for the collectables on the second playthrough it took me just over 5 hours so its not very long in the grand scheme of things. There is a gates of hell mode that opens which pits you against 60 waves of enemies once you have finished the game which might be worth a look to some people.

    Final thoughts

Well i would say i had fun with the game while it lasted i would recommend people rent the game due to the length and the lack on incentive to play through the game again unless your playing for the full 1000 points. With GOW 3 out next month its hard to say go out and buy the game but if you have a bit of extra cash then give it a go its not a bad game just nothing amazing.

dont think it is Gears 3 coz there was no screenshots in magazine i read and they think it will be out in 2011 not 2010, so i think it was God of War 3 on PS3
