It takes a special kind of person to be a goalkeeper, they're a different breed. Have you ever fancied standing around for 85 mins freezing your balls off while all your team-mates run about? Well that's exactly when the new FIFA will allow you to do.

How the game will decide who has to go in goal during online Clubs play is not entirely clear, however my experiences from previous FIFA games may lead me to believe a highly skilled individual could (given the right tools) keep an opposition at bay for an entire match (Joe Hart style).

Also announced is the usual career mode (15 seasons this time).

EA has also confirmed a FIFA 11 demo for 16th September 16th, before the game launches on 1st October.

This sounds a bit like NHL - they've had manual keepers in league matches for a couple of years now.

Any time we came up against a real life keeper we were rubbing our hands, the AI has always been better.

FIFA is quite the opposite, the AI controlled keepers will sometime do insane things like running half way up their half to chase a ball they have no chance of reaching and their predictability made it far too easy to score in every 1 on 1 opportunity either via a lob or low driven shot.

A player controlled keeper who knows exactly when to come and when to stay could dramatically improve a teams defence over the usual computer controlled one who can't be trusted with a pair of scissors.

hmm im mixed on this one however its nice to at least be given the option to play as a keeper.

This is just like my school days, too slow to play wings, to fat and cock-eyed to do striker and too stupid to do defence. Fat boy in nets as usual. lol

It'll be a challenge to control the keeper, hopefully they will make the control pretty simple for it.

I’ve gotta say I’m hoping for something a bit more complex than “run out/stay in” controls. If they give you enough options and control you could become a real goal keeping demon...

It’s weird but this feature has got me kind of excited and I can’t keep goal to save my life in the real world so this will be a nice change for me.

i dont fancy being in goal at all. too much pressure knowing if you make a dick of yourself and play shit your whole team loses. and if you're playing in a really good team (or against a really really shit team), then you wont get to do anything, when everyone else is having fun
