Thread: Nintendo Console Confirmed

OOOOOH Nintendo have confirmed the rumours they are to release a new console next year that will be "signifcanly more powerful than both the xbox and PS3.

Rumours are flying around about the insides based on hardware far more capable than the hardware in the Xbox and PS3. This to me atleast seems a strang move for nintendo. Unless they are going to take a massive hit on the console price the kind of kit Nintendo may use will attract some seriously high manufacturing costs.

$350 and $400 or ?300 + is way outside the sort of price point most families would pay for a console and with the hardcore market cornered i dont see who will be jumping on this console in anywhere near the numbers of the Wii.

THe below are mostly rumours by the way

The system maybe based on AMD's R700 GPU architecture - RV770 features a 256-bit memory controller and is the first GPU to support GDDR5 memory, which runs at 900 MHz giving an effective transfer rate of 3.6 GHz and memory bandwidth of up to 115 GB/s. Almost 3x the 360's power which is seriously fast Apparently

The system will also support 1080p output not upscaled like the 360 and PS3 and also 3D. Unlike 99.2% of TV's bought last year lol.

The more i read the more it smells of bullshit but this is Nintendo who knows how much they have spent on this bad boy.

Also the controller are rumoured to have screens that take streamed images from the console. Now anyone who know anything about RF will know you cannot stream high bit rate content like 1080p via conventional RF but again who knows for sure

if its nintendo then it will be robust and cheap, that's the secret to their success. it won't be 300 quid whatever it is I reckon.

Announced they will be announcing...... its like those PR releases that the cunts on twitter do 'follow me to hear when we'll announce something'

Hardly surprising theyre updating.. the release cycle for nintendo games at the moment is more like Death Valley (because all dev work is aimed towards the new hardware)
The wii was always underpowered, being little more than a GameCube, but an increase of new hardware specs better than the 360.. can be done.. the hardware spec for both 360 & PS3 are about 5 years old.. their initial manufacturing costs have dropped, so its very doable to get slightly better hardware for similar prices. - They dont have to be vastly improved, just a similar level & they are true on their promises.

The difference is the 3rd party developer support. 3rd Party games on Gamecube/Wii & DS have generally been terrible.. a lot of developers do not have faith you can get decent sales for a AAA developed title. (Madworld, criticallly acclaimed, hardcore based & mature styled... sold like a 2 legged mutt in Battersea dog's home)

The wii came out when not many homes had HDTV (or where in bedrooms where they didnt have HDTV there either)... it was a sensible cost saving choice then, will that be the case now? there might be more HDTVs in homes, but has that improved in bedrooms?

1080p on the controller? is this going to be like the gimmick that phones now use? sure, 1080p, but its a fucking tiny screen, therefore you dont need to shift the huge amount of data to display on it.. & the benefits you get on that 60" screen doesnt come into play with a 3 inch screen. Marketing and bullshit.

Nintendo's sales for the wii have recently plumetted, You can no longer sell an extra 'waggle device' to a home that already has one - The problem Nintendo will have to trying to sell whatever this new machine offers that others dont (including the wii for the casual people) - Its a problem they made for themselves.. Get the casual to buy & fuck the hardcore gamers... Dont be surprised when the hardcore says 'fuck you' and the casuals go off to pick the shitnuggets from between their asscheeks.

Personally, I had a wii & other than mario galaxy, it was used for trying homebrew apps.. other than that, it collected dust.. Fuck, without homebrew, the shit thing wouldnt even play a dvd!
Online gaming was a joke, Friends codes per game? no communication between users (except for animal crossing!).. and majority of games where 'waggle' the controller was the whole excuse for the game.. Dancing games which got fooled by just moving the controller as displayed on the screen & not actually dancing. fucking awful.

The whole thing doesn't fit nintendo's business model. Technically apart from the controllers its pretty standard and you'd expect it to be more powerful than the xbox and PS3 but why would they even bother with a new console when the WII is still selling fuck loads especially in this economy. Even more confusing is why they would go for such and expensive system they wont recoup the losses on software sales either they sell less games than M$ and Sony. The whole thing is bizzare especially the controllers WTF!!

its all rumour at the mo remember. Wii sales are tailing off badly now as they have hit saturation point. I'd like to punt ours but the kids love it, even tho I don't let them play it most of the time as it hogs the living room telly.

The wii isnt selling.. Its been on decline for some time now...
Nintendo released their accounting figures the other day... Sales are decimated & their profits are down..

the 3DS hasnt sold, whether its down to people being happy with DSi, or not being sold on a 3d Gimmick, or even having a 3D effect that cannot be easily shown on TV Adverts.. (as well as adverts that have actors saying 'the 3D is amazing, but dont see the screen isnt powered on')

Sony & MS may be happy for the current console generation to run for a couple more years.. they get more money that way & can spend more time on the next generation (without having hardware fuckups like the original 360, or awful security systems like the PS3 (anyone want a random number that isnt 4?))
Nintendo have the problem they have to release soon or wait for the next generation... Theyre not in a position to wait (like they did with the gamecube).. By announcing the wii2, sales of the wii will drop further (few people buy into a platform knowing its going to be quickly replaced)

The problem they largely have, they pieced together a new control method with the wii, (as they have done with previous generations Gamecube & GBA connect for instance).

The controllers so far have been Renders, none officially from Nintendo. They might be genuine, or might be made up from some unemployed graphic designer looking to get work!

The interesting is the 'Play at E3' thing.. normally, they announce the Brand, have a couple of Videos & maybe a couple of tech demos that run Dev machines (usually PCs stuffed into product cases, or just Wizard of Oz lies)
By having playable machines (assuming the machines are genuine & not dev kits/PCs) means theyre ramping up for a quick release cycle.. Perhaps even this Christmas (sept/oct release).. because its new, they could then game the media by having it sold out everywhere (like they did with the wii originally). If they miss this window, its daft to release hardware at the start of year leading up to summer.... Is the CEO of nintendo retiring as hes heading into senility?

If its genuine you'd expect a full product at E3 wouldn't you. So a christmas launch would make sense. If so i bet M$ and Sony are shitting a brick, you can forget any of their game launches taking centre stage when Nintendo have an entire machine released. Sony have shown off a Tablet in response most likely i wonder what M$ have. Maybe the next halo lol. Nintendo may just be surprising everyone and sneaking the system in this year

No I wouldnt.. Look back at previous releases of hardware.. theeres normally an announcement, then a show where its displayed but no interactivity (or if there is, its behind closed doors with selected members of the press - ie, managed press release), then finally a final show where its displayed (like what they're planning with E3).. Seems awfully quick from internal to public..

A bigger question (which wont be answered until its release) is the online offerings & the wii store.. Some people may have bought things from the wiistore, Virtual console & wiiware & stuff.. will this be transferable?

The more Im reading about this, I get the feeling this is more like the movement from DS to DSi.. sameish hardware, just slightly updated...
In this case, same wii code underneath with an 'expansion pak' built into the wii 2.. so you buy a game & can play it on SD with the wii, or in HD on the wii2.

Current controllers will work, and opportunity to include new controllers to the mix too.. Perhaps even a "3DS controller" that can download from the wii2 & play games on a local screen, much like the PSP offers with the PS3 (but something hardly used)

Im not sure Sony's Tablet is in anyway a counter to the news here.. Rather a continuance of plans from the 'NGP' & popularity caused by the iPad/Phone... (equally, Sony are rubbing that Playstation brand thinly, the PS3, PSPgo, Tablet, Phone, NGP.. How long till they release a Playstation TV? More poor products like the PSPgo could seriously tarnish the Playstation brand (which the current PSN issues & OtherOS removal is doing))

i thought that was the WII 2, which means the kiddie games will be more cartoon like, like the who framed roger rabbit, hope it isnt 3D coz i would want to suffer motion sickness, and throw up on my TV

can't see it happening myself, Nintendo are still to make better games than golden eye and the original mario cart form the N64 for me yet.

but if any of the compnays where to make a 3D console I would not be best pleased as I have only recently forked out on a HD tv -_____-
