Thread: Red Faction: Armageddon demo on May 3rd

THQ has announced that the demo for the newest entry to the Red Faction Series, Armageddon, will be released on Xbox Live on May 3rd.

RFA is a follow up to 2009's open world Demolish-Buildings-In-Spectacular-Fashion-And-Maybe-Do-Some-Missions-And-Stuff 'em up, Red Faction: Guerilla.
Set several generations after Guerilla, RFA's set up is that everything good you achieved in the prior game counts for nowt, after a planetary apocalypse turns Mars in the equivalent of Andover (insert Armed Forces town of choice here>. Chilling. Add some aliens, a dash of mad cultists and you have the makings of a pretty crap week.

However, THQ did mention that the demo will show a range of abilities for the Nanoforge (a wrist mounted version of the Nano-rifle) as well as the ability to "throw entire buildings at your enemies with Red Faction's signature weapon, the Magnet Gun."

The full game is due to be released on June 3rd. And that's all for you.

Non-fans will not be arsed in much the same way they where about the Red Faction franchise.


Essentially, having now had 2 releases on the 360 and both bombed, THq have now decided to cancel the Red Faction franchise.
Chief Exec of THq, Brian Farrell said

we do not intend to carry forward with that franchise in any meaningful way.

Volition, creator of the series (who is also working/worked on the SR3 sequel) has been reassigned to work on Guillermo del Toro's inSane game project, a survival horror game...

armageddon got fairly decent reviews from what ive seen. certainly ive not seen anyone come out and say it was fucking rubbish or anything. nobody bought it though and thats the bottom line really

RF is just so decidedly average that it just sunk without a trace.

I think that's a bit unfair - it's didn't bomb, it just didn't sell sufficiently well to warrant further games, and for the argumentative amongst you, yes, there is a difference between a game bombing and it selling moderate numbers. Besides, I doubt we've seen the last of it - give it a few years, maybe on the next-gen consoles and we'll see another RF game, probably something safe like an FPS. As long as it had the blowing buildings up, I'll be happy.
