Kotaku have posted a lengthy article about the new feature of Horde mode in Gears of War 3. Rather than just being an graphical update with new weapons, GOW3's version will feature a real-time strategy component based on the ever popular tower-defence games.
Earning cash for kills, players can buy increasingly expensive fortifications (such as razor wire, electrified wire, laser barriers etc) along with decoys, sentry guns and more. The new Silverback mech walker that serves as a mobile turret and cover for players will be available during Horde as well.
Also mentioned is the addition of bonus objectives every few rounds or so, giving the players opportunities to earn new weapons, more ammo and more cash to spend. (Examples given were clearing a wave in a time limit, using a particular weapon a certain number of times.)
Another interesting addition is that of Mutators (presumably like Halo's Skulls) which, so far, seem to add comedy value to the game (big heads, feet, gore mode turns blood spray into a spray of flowers) along with an optional laugh track, which could be either really funny or really annoying.
Gears of War 3 is released in the UK on September 20th and probably some time in the rest of the world but since we don't live there, it's of no concern.
