Who remembers Steel Battalion on the original Xbox? I do, I even saw one of its 18 foot wide, 3 ton weighing, 9 friends need to operate it game controller in action once.
For those not rich/crazy enough to have owned the original game and it's aircraft carrier sized controller, Steel Battalion offered a semi-realistic take on what bipedal mech warfare would probably be like. The good news is that there's a sequel coming out for the 360. The so-so news is that it will require Kinect.
Whilst it's not set in the original game's timeline, it still retains the signature VTs (Vertical Tanks) set in 2082, a post-technological apocalypse world where high-technology has been lost and reverted to World War 1-2 levels (apart from the VTs of course, got to have some exceptions). It'll be caused by iPhone 12, you'll see.
Set to be a first person action game, the player will use the standard controller for movement, Kinect for starting engines, rotating turrets and so on - sounds interesting but I could easily see the control system end up being a bit overcomplicated. It could be a fun game to play with a friend - one doing the turret with Kinect and the other driving.
It also promises to allow you to high-five members of your tank crew for successfully completing a mission. Now that's innovation, not nearly enough high fives in games. Capcom haven't commented where you'll be able to perform rebounds, down-lows or too-slows.
Here's the new Gamescon trailer which reveal some of the backstory...
