    Skyrim Thread

I couldn't seem to find a thread for Skyrim so thought I had better start one. I am going to start this week, have been trying to finish off other games but can't be arsed, the AI on BF3 single player is pissing me right off.

Anyhow Skyrim, does anybody have any advice/tips that will help a newbie. I am not sure what race to be, im swaying towards a redguard at the moment, does it really make that much difference?
    Feisty one you are!

Still can't find time to play this as yet but play an odd hour every now and then. I'm an Orc just like I was in Oblivion love the rage mode and getting up close and bashing things about lol. No real tips from me atm Apart from check the difficulty I was finding it difficult at the start kept dying on the first few quests due to me having it on the hardest difficulty haha

The races each have unique abilities, I'm a khajeet so when unarmed I attack with my claws, makes brawls simple. A quick google will tell you what each race has to offer. Also talk to everyone, most people have quests they can give you and when you get to whiterun for the first time talk to the woman who owns the blacksmith to learn how to smith and get some free items out of it. Other than that just keep plugging away and as lurgi said check the difficulty. It can be disheartening to see your corpse flying around loads thinking your only on normal for you to actually be on hard.

Before you start the first thing you need to do is trade it in and get Assassin's creed brotherhood or/and revelation.

i always think its hard to make you choose what you want to be before you've played it, because at that stage you wont really know. although to compensate for that i dont think it actually makes much difference.

whenever i get round to playing it i think ill try out a badass mage. throwing magic in cunts faces.

just dont expect to see any dragons, cause there are none in skyrim

Your race only actually affects the (small) bonuses you get to certain skills and a couple of bonuses to stats (e.g. Nords get 50% resist frost magic). The bonuses to skills don't have much of an impact because you will naturally level the skills required for your style of play anyway. If you run around smashing everything with hammers, you'll level up the skillsets for doing so just by playing. I personally have a Nord with a mohawk, dual-wielding enchanted daggers and using a bow if I can't sneak up behind someone and backstab them (for 15x damage!)

I make all my own weapons and armour unless I find something particularly useful (like the gloves that double my already impressive backstab damage). I sneak everywhere, steal everything I can get my grubby hands on and murder the wicked in their sleep. I'm thoroughly enjoying myself!

It all depends like others have said you get basic bonuses when you're first starting. For instance I'm a Nord because I figured it's Skyrim why not be one of it's people. As a Nord I got bonuses to two handed weapons, frost resistance, and light armour. But I went for shield and sword with heavy armour. Because Daedric armour when you can make it looks badass. I very rarely use magic other than to heal as I prefer the warrior route. I may well go Assassin with my next playthrough as a Khajit character.

I think Khajit can see in the dark which could be handy as you'll come across some really dark dungeons early on. If you need any quest guidance post here, message me I'll see if I can answer anything for you. Unless it's Dark Brotherhood stuff because I wiped them out.

i've recently started playing this game and one tip I can give you is to make some easy money at the beginning, get yourself a woodcutters axe (they are fairly easy to find lying around in places, there's a couple in riverwood), and chop some wood up then you can sell it for 30 gold per 6 pieces. You can buy that house in no time !

My guy is lvl 51 mage top lvls in destruction, alteration and illusion so I can be sneaky or maim.

Money wise smithing and enchanting together got me my 100k so well worth doing. Also worth crafting your items to legendary as the value doubles. TBH the only stuff I bought has been potions ingots and spell books.

Lol ridge y so mean to Sithis

I love the dark brotherhood, I play a sneaky woodelf that has top level heavy armour and top level bow at the same time having armour that gives me bonuses to archery, and a different set of armour that gives me bonuses to smithing and I leave that in a chest in my house which is next to a smithy.

If you want fast money get the transmute spell and make iron in to silver and then silver in to gold, make gold ingots and make shed loads of gold jewellery to sell. When you get level 100 heavy armour it doesn't negatively effect your sneak and it also doesnt weigh anything. I wouldn't put loads of skills in to the sneak set as again you don't need them all i have done is take the first one and then got the ones that give you bonuses to archery and your dagger and with regards to using the kajeet I don't need to see in the dark coz I use the shout which is actually a whisper and it is basically detect life so you can sense people behind walls.

Oh and I kill most enemies with my bow fire with one hit using dwarvern arrows minimum. Dragons take a lot more but if you sneak and have the x3 archery skill you can take a substantial amount of health off of dragons if they are sat at a dragon temple area. All depends on what you want I'm using single handed and shield and if you look at the shield skills and use the shield bash technique you will understand why it is very useful especially against hard characters and dragons.

Any other questions just ask oh and do the companions missions first as they set you up nicely
