Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare – Simply the worst
Over the next few days you will no doubt be bombarded by review of this year’s Call of Duty. Some in fact most will call it a solid instalment in a wildly successful franchise but more and more are seeing it for what it really is. The COD franchise represents everything wrong with gaming in it’s current state.
Before I delve into my various issues with COD I think it’s only fair to preface it with a little bit of background. I loved Modern Warfare, it is still possibly the finest FPS ever made and when i heard the first rumours of a pixel perfection remastering I was beyond excited. MW was more than a game for me and I met most of my closest friends those glorious months. I was fresh out of the Navy and struggling with more issues than I care to mention but Modern Warfare was my escape. We played it every day for hours and would go for days without losing a match it was simply the perfect game.
Commercially it was beyond successful and much like Halo had a few years previous it took the FPS genre forward in leaps and bounds. The campaign was utterly brilliant no more so than the seminal “Ghillies in the Mist” that I still enjoy playing through today. It was rich, deeply nuanced and paced to utter perfection swinging between tense standoffs to balls out kill fests and the character were still unmatched today. The only thing that could ruin the legacy that Modern Warfare had created was greed & that is exactly what the latest COD represents.
If Activision cared 1 single jot for the gamers it claims to cherish than I’m sorry Modern Warfare would be available outside of the horrifically priced Legacy editions of Infinite Warfare. The decision to bundle it with this year’s instalment is fine, it is and that should be a valid option but to not make it available outside of that is disgusting behaviour from one of gaming’s biggest publishers.
Sold separately for £30 and it becomes an essential day 1 purchase but I just can’t afford or want to encourage further money grabbing from Activision.
I hope those that fold and pay the money get their money’s worth.
